Since its opening in 2014, the work of the Zarya Centre for Contemporary Art in Vladivostok has mainly come to be associated with international art residences. Over the course of five years, Zarya has realized more than 80 art projects dedicated to understanding the local geopolitical, social, and cultural landscape. Several of the works created at its art residences have been added to the centre’s collection, which  was shown at “IN RESIDENCE”. The “IN RESIDENCE” exhibition presented the various different approaches adopted by resident artists to conceptualise the Primorsky Territory: from visual experiments and observations of the unique natural landscape to working with the history of the place and its social reality. The combination of individual artistic expressions featured in the exposition facilitated the presentation of a new “portrait of the place” based on local research and plastic experiments.
