The Fifth Floor Cultural Centre is a new institution on the Russian contemporary art map. Its programme activities are developing in three main directions: a resource centre, an educational platform and a creative laboratory. Numerous lectures, master classes and film screenings cater to both professional audiences and members of the general publicwho wish to broaden their horizons in the field of modern culture. “Events at the Fifth Floor Cultural Centre are not limited to the narrow framework of contemporary art, and include themes related to philosophy and history, as well as societal work and sociocultural issues of both local and global significance,” notes Daria Tkacheva, the centre’s curator. An important facet of the Fifth Floor’s work is extending support to local artists and promoting their inclusion in the national and international context. One of the key events of 2019 for the Fifth Floor was the “Ethics of Dust” exhibition, the first event in the history of the city of Kirov to showcase artists born or living in the city.
